The origin of Sottsass Tables

Ettore Sottsass is one of the most important figure in Architecture and Design of the late 20th century: a polyhedral artist who reinvented industrial design according to his personal, unique vision of the world.

He was able to set new rules in the design world thanks to his prolific imagination and the Memphis Group, that he founded in the 1980s, was the home of his creativity.  The group, based in Milan but recognized and celebrated all over the world, responded to modernism with lively shapes and hues, leading to an association with postmodernism.

The heritage of Ettore Sottsass’ eclectic genius found its way and continuation in Sottsass Associati Studio. Sottsass Tables designed for Laurameroni represent a clear example of the ability of the studio to follow the path traced by its founder, where design meets art and emotions.

Sottsass Tables: iconic products for Laurameroni Collection

Ettore Sottsass wanted to fuse together beauty and functionality, and to do so he drew inspiration from his own imagination and from the power of colours, a constant component of its creations. Sottsass Associati Studio successfully followed the same path: the collection designed for Laurameroni, encompassing Sottsass tables, has a playful, amazing attitude, without renouncing to elegance and differentiation.

The unusual effect of the metal bases of the furniture creates an unexpected result, a slight yet pleasant disorientation. The use of polished steel and crystal combines with the choice of primary colours, red and yellow, to remain true to Ettore Sottsass’ attitude towards design and life.
The crystal tables of Sottsass Collection are also available with a yellow crystal top to never stop playing with colours.

Sotsass tables: a genuine, surprising creativity meets highly skilled craftsmanship

The emotional approach that distinguishes Sottsass’ creations and legacy is thus strongly evident also in our Sottsass tables. The neat, geometrical lines of the crystal top match the irregular, broken lines of the metal supports.

Each one seems to follow its own, casual direction to create tables in which rigour combines with the unexpected. Such unique design of these contemporary tables requires also the ability to transform creativity into real objects: our skilled craftsmen perfectly interpreted Sottsass Associati design and used all their knowledge and wisdom to realize the metal base that gently supports the crystal top.

This distinguishing design makes Sottsass tables immediately recognizable to an attentive observer. Entering a room with these products means exploring a space in which furniture is not merely functional or decorative, but rather it wants to tell something, to inspire us and to welcome into a unique world, where emotions and visual pleasure still matters.
